Forschungsfrage/Ziel:

CONNEX hat drei Aufgaben verfolgt:

  1. Einen Überblick über die aktuelle EU-Forschung zum Thema in allen Disziplinen und allen Ländern Europas zu schaffen. Hierzu wurde eine Erhebung jüngster und laufender Forschungsprojekte (über 1.600) durchgeführt, die in der Datenbank GOVDATA online zugänglich sind. Eine vergleichende Auswertung zur Entwicklung und zum Stand der Forschung wird 2009 als Sammelband erscheinen. GOVDATA wurde durch eine Literaturdatenbank GOVLIT (über 2.500 Eintragungen) ergänzt.
  2. Zu ausgewählten Themenschwerpunkten Forschungsvorhaben zusammenzuführen und neue einschlägige Forschung zu initiieren. Die Zusammenarbeit war in sechs Forschergruppen organisiert, die von Mannheim, Dublin, Ljubljana, Oslo, Paris und Utrecht aus geleitet wurden. Mannheimer Wissenschaftler waren in allen sechs Forschergruppen aktiv vertreten. Die von Mannheim aus koordinierte Forschergruppe (RG 4) unter Leitung von Beate Kohler-Koch hat sich mit der Repräsentation von Interessen und der Rolle der Zivilgesellschaft unter dem Gesichtspunkt von Einfluss und demokratischer Legitimität befasst. Die Forschungsergebnisse wurden in Workshops und Konferenzen erörtert und haben ihren Niederschlag in zahlreichen Veröffentlichungen (insgesamt über 500) gefunden; neben Sammelbänden in renommierten Verlagen sind die Sonderhefte und Einzelbeiträge in angesehenen Fachzeitschriften (mit anonymer Begutachtung) zu erwähnen. Außerdem wurden gemeinsame Arbeitsergebnisse zusätzlich in den 9 Bänden der CONNEX Report Series publiziert, die auch online zugänglich sind.
  3. Förderung der wissenschaftlichen Kommunikation und Unterstützung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses. Abgesehen von einer laufend gepflegten Web-Seite und einem regelmäßigen Newsletter hat CONNEX die online Zeitschrift EUROGOV – European Governance Papers und die Living Reviews in European Governance (LREG) initiiert; beide mit Gutachtersystem. Während EUROGOV sein Erscheinen mit der Beendigung von CONNEX einstellt, werden die Living Reviews weitergeführt. Der wissenschaftliche Nachwuchs wurde gezielt in die Forschungskooperation eingebunden und profitierte von zusätzlichen Seminarangeboten, Sommerschulen und Doktorandennetzwerken.
